Catalogue Note

Designed in the 'French' style, the form of this bergère relates to a number of suites of seat furniture attributed to the Golden Square, Soho partnership of the cabinet makers John Mayhew and William Ince. Several features of the present lot are typically associated with their output, most notably the way the arms elegantly sweep almost continuosly in to the tops of the front legs and the paterae headed fluted legs.
