Description

- the largest: 14.3cm., 5 5/8 in. long
naturalistically modelled and coloured in an array of fruits including, apples, pears, plums and bunches of grapes issuing from leafy branches, three upon solid backs, together with a small tureen and cover modelled as a melon on a turned foot,
Condition
a model of an apple: one leaf tip has been broken and re-stuck,
a model of a bunch of grapes: four leaf tips have been re-stuck and two are loose and separate,
a model of a pear: there is overpainting to the back, which makes it difficult to determine true extent of damage,
the other pieces are in good condition.

Catalogue Note
It is uncertain how these curious objects were supposed to be displayed as only some have glazed pierced holes which suggests they were mounted on walls, or simply placed as table decorations. A group of similar models were sold at Sotheby's Amsterdam, 19th September 2000, lots 490-504. A model of two apples is in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, USA, acc. no. 1966-210-1
