Catalogue Note

Comparative Literature:
S. Eriksen, Early Neo-Classicism in France, London, 1974, plate 242.

Designed in the goût grec style, these vases, with their bacchic lion-mask Grecian mounts, are closely related to the central vase of a garniture formerly in the collection of Mme. Jules Fribourg, illustrated by Eriksen, op. cit., pl. 242.

A bleu-du-roi Sèvres porcelain vase with very similar neck and handle mounts was sold at Sotheby's on 12th June 2002, lot 365.

A porcelain garniture with similar mounts was sold from the Jaime Ortiz-Patiño Collection, Sotheby's New York, 20th May 1992, lot 31.
