Description

  • Three ivory fans in original paper cases, circa 1750-1780
  • ivory, paper,
  • 28cm., 11in. and 29cm., 11 3/8 in. long
the first with the leaf painted with views of Rome: the Colosseum, the tomb of Cecilia Metella and the pyramid of C. Cestius, the sticks and guards carved with putti playing music among flowers, Italian, circa 1780 ; the second painted with a gallant scene on a blue background, the sticks carved with chinoiserie figures, the pierced guards inlaid with mother-of-pearl, English, mid 18th century ; the third example painted with a shepherd and shepherdess, English, mid-18th century

Condition

1. very minor tear to gilt edge, some losses to carved sticks. One guard with some pins to reinforce it. Very charming. 2. some wear along edge, right guard and leaf stuck 3. one guard broken, one patch lifting from leaf
