Description

each brightly painted with leafy peony branches issuing from pierced rocks, all below bands of floral sprays and shaped floral cartouches, mounted as lamps

Condition

Both vases mounted with electrical fittings, the interior and the base not inspected. There is general enamel loss and surafce wear to both vases. One vase is broken and repaired, with a crack running horizontally just below the looting line at the shoulder, and more cracks across the body (particularly near one of the large iron-red and gilt-decorated peonies. There are associated repainting along the cracks. The section about the bulbous section of the neck also shows extensive repainting, possibly due to the installation of electrical mounts. The other vase has similar extensive areas of repainting above the bulbous section of the neck. There is a 0.7x0.5cm chip to the foot.
