Description
- Bronze, oak
- Mortar: 31cm. high, 40.5cm. diameter; 1ft. ¼in., 1ft. 4in. and stand: 73.5cm. high, 39cm. wide, 33.5cm. deep; 2ft. 4¾in., 1ft. 3¼in., 1ft. 1¼in.
cast with bands of foliage and the inscription HEEFT MY GHEGOTEN 1658 JACOBUS DE CLERCK, raised on a Dutch carved and turned oak triform stand, parts 17th century
Condition
The cast decoration to the mortar is generally good. The mortar with signs of wear and marks due to age and use, there to appears to be a small area of solder to the rim. The stand would appear to contain composite elements as the legs have filled sections to the interior possible from use on a table. There is evidence of worm there are splits and separations to the feet, there are later bun feet. The top drilled with an aperture and with discolouration from the base of the mortar
