Catalogue Note
A copy after Paulus Potter's much larger work now in the Mauritshuis, The Hague (inv. no. 136).1 He was reknowned for his attention to detail: notice in this composition the flies buzzing above the bull, the frog in the foreground, the lark hovering in the sky. The church spire of Rijswijk is visible in the distance.
