Condition

The canvas has been relined. There is a pattern of hairline craquelure overall. Ultraviolet light reveals signs of retouching, notably thin lines addressing craquelure in the sky, strengthening to the face of the central seated ox, and a small area in the extreme lower left corner. There are two small surface drips in the lower left quadrant (visible in the catalogue illustration) Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
