  • Italian, late 19th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the alabaster is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few small chips, including to the proper left side of the woman's headdress. There is veining to the alabaster consistent with the material. There is a more prominent slightly open vein running through the rock underneath the woman's abdomen from front to the back and there are some further prominent slightly open veins to the rock at the back. There may have been some attempts to conceal the veins at the back in the past. There are some small nicks and scratches to the alabaster particularly at the edges.
