each of baluster form, variously carved in relief with figures in a rocky landscape, divided by stylised floral scrolls and lappet bands, the interior and base lacquered black
Condition
One vase has a 2x0.3cm area of loss just below the rim to the interior, and some shallow flakes (largest 0.6x0.5cm) further into the interior. The exterior rim has considerable losses (largest 2x0.2cm) and some areas of re-lacquer. There are minor chips across the body of the vase, especially at the extremities of the carving. The foot with areas of re-lacquer near the metal-mounted footring. The black lacquer to the base is largely flaked showing the rusty metal underneath. The inside of the foot with a 1.5x0.7cm area of loss to the lacquer.
The other vase with similar re-lacquering to the exterior rim and foot. There are minor chips to the body at the extremities of the carving. The base is detached from the foot, 1/4 of the inside of the foot suffers from lacquer loss. THe interior with shallow flakes and short scratches.
