Condition
This painting is in good overall condition and is ready to hang. The canvas has been relined. There is a pattern of faint hairline craquelure overall consistent with age. Ultraviolet light reveals some signs of retouching which are minor given the overall size of the work, notably a vertical circa 15cm line of restoration in the horizon to the right of centre, a smaller circa 10cm horizontal line in the sky to the left above the summit, scattered minor spots in the upper left quadrant, and intermittently in two thin lines relating to the vertical stretcher bar, in the centre. There are also some minor spots of retouching near the lower framing edge to the left, including in the 'Alfred' of the signature, and some apparent strengthening to part of 'Düsseldorf'.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame, coved and fluted with laurel and berry ornaments, in good overall condition.
