Condition

Illustration is quite accurate. Good condition, except very minor cast faults on nozzles and few tiny stains on the gilding. Very fine chiselling, combining flowers and coat of arms.

Catalogue Note

Les armes figurant sur ces flambeaux correspondent à la période pendant laquelle Louis-Joseph de Montmorency-Laval fut évêque de Metz. Durant son épiscopat, de 1760 à 1786, il consacra d'énormes dépenses à l'embellissement de sa résidence de Frascati, située aux portes de la ville. L'Affaire du Collier et la disgrâce du cardinal de Rohan lui permirent d'accéder à la charge de Grand Aumônier de France en 1786. Il mourut en émigration à Altona en 1808.
