Catalogue Note

The daughter and granddaughter of painters of Swiss lineage, Renée Vautier was a self-taught artist who followed the advice of Bourdelle, Pompon and Hernandez and became a sculptor, working in stoneware and terracotta. Inspired by the natural beauty and form of rough stones, she used pebbles, slate, gypsum, agate or amethyst to create abstract compositions or fantastic animals.

Galerie Vallois devoted a personal exhibition to René Vautier in 2003.
