Catalogue Note

Charles Bigonnet est l'élève de Louis-Ernest Barrias et d'Henri Bouchard à l'École des beaux-arts de Paris. Il sculpte des type ethniques, mozabites,berbères ou tziganes qui s'apparentent à la beauté antique. Il réalise également des ensembles monumentaux, principalement à Alger. Il obtient le prix Abd-el-Tif en 1912. En 1931 une rétrospective lui est consacrée au Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Alger.

After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris Charles Bigonet carved characters and monumental sculptures mainly in Algiers. He was awarded the Abd-el-tif prize in 1912. In 1931 a large exhibition was devoted to him in Algiers, at the Musée des Beaux-Arts.
