Très bon état général. Quelques fines rayures d'usage sur la surface et traces de salissures. Infimes fêles de cuissons d'origine, notamment sur la nuque de la sirène. Very good overall condition A few minor scratches from use to the surface and traces of dirt. Minor firing cracks mostly to the neck of the mermaid, inherent in the making.

En 1951, François Décorchemont participe, en concurrence avec Henri Navarre et Max Ingrand, à un concours pour la construction de six fontaines destinées aux bassins du rond-point des Champs-Elysées. Son projet ne sera pas retenu, mais il reprendra le thème de la sirène sortant des eaux dans ce bas-relief.

Modèle réalisé en quatre exemplaires, mais le seul connu dans cette grande dimension.
Un exemplaire comparable est conservé au Corning Museum of Glass, Etats-Unis.

Une lettre de Madame Décorchemont, veuve de l'artiste, datée du 5 décembre 1971 sera remise à l'acquéreur. 

In 1951, François Décorchemont competed with Henri Navarre and Max Ingrand to design six ornamental fountains for the Champs-Elysées. The prize was awarded to another, but Décorchemont later re-interpreted the theme of the mermaid for this low relief. 

Four copies of this model were executed, this is the only copy known in this large dimension. A comparable version is in the collection of the Corning Museum of Glass, U.S.A.

A letter from Madame Décorchemont, widow of the artist, dated 5 December 1971, accompanies this lot.
