Catalogue Note

Gérôme's sculpture of La joueuse de Cerceau was a subject that he often repeated in both two and three dimensions, including a version in porcelain by Sèvres. For his iconic 1890 work in bronze, Tanagra, he models the figure of Tanagra holding a figure of La joueuse de Cerceau in her hand.

An original invoice for this sculpture from the Siot Decauville foundry, dated 16 April 1926, accompanies this lot.
