finely carved with an ovoid body rising to rounded shoulders and a short circular neck, carved in low relief on one side with leafy bamboo shoots amidst jagged rockwork, the reverse with iris blossoms and elegantly swaying long leaves, the stone of a yellowish-green colour

By repute, a gift from the Dowager Empress Cixi to an English resident in Peking, and thence by descent.
