Description
of cylindrical section, the exterior decorated in underglaze blue with a continuous scene depicting a standing scholar looking at a warrior seated astride a horse, the warrior dressed in military attire and holding a long spear in his left hand, all within a rural setting with jagged rockwork and large pine trees, all between an incised 'classic' scroll band around the mouthrim and a chevron band encircling the foot, the base left unglazed
Condition
The brushpot is in overall good condition. There is a burst air bubble / iron spot toward the foot on the reverse and another iron spot further away near the base. There is a small pinprick air bubble on the rim. There are a couple of iron spots on the interior and some typical minor imperfections on the interior rim, but overall the brushpot is finely potted and well painted. The actual tone of blue is close, if not slightly paler compared to the catalogue illustration.
