Description
of lobed form and quatrefoil section, finely painted on the interior with European figures gathered on a grassy terrace, possibly a reinterpretation of a biblical scene with the holy family in the centre seated on a tiled table, surrounded by an assembly of visitors including a gentleman seated on rock carrying a child in a sleeve wrapped around his stomach and ladies to the left presenting offerings on plates, all dressed in opulent European attires adorned with draperies, with further buildings surmounted by a cross or a bronze statue in the distance, the interior walls picked out with a lotus band in grisaille, repeated around the exterior and interrupted by four putti heads enclosed in medallions, the underside painted in crimson-red and pastels of green and blue with a landscape depicting a sailboat cruising on a lake approaching a monastery
Condition
There are a few light scratches on the interior and expected rubbing to the enamels, but overall these are very well preserved. An approximately 10 cm section of the rim of the right lobe is restored with some surface varnishing to stabilize the enamels. There is some typical crackled contractions in the enamels visible on the underside.
