Description

  • bronze
seated on a pedestal base embellished with hardstones and set with a mandorla, the hands set in dharmachakra mudra, the face with fine features and downcast eyes set in a meditative expression, surmounted by a tiara inset with turquoise beads and framed by a flaming halo

Provenance

Collection of J.P. Reeves (1901-1978), OBE, British Consul in Macao. By repute acquired while being posted in Beijing during the 1930s, thence by family descent.

Condition

The figure and mandorla are in overall good condition, with just general demoting and minor surface wear. As seen in the catalogue photo, there is extensive corrosion and rubbing to the gilding on the repousse mandorla. Hardstones flanking the throne are possibly replaced. The mandorla is quite dented.
