Description

  • Bamboo
humorously carved in the form of a reclining toddler simply wearing a finely incised floral apron leaving his bottom bare, resting his joyful face on his right hand and holding an ingot in his left hand, his tonsured head surmounted by a single tuft of hair, the bamboo richly patinated to a warm reddish-brown colour

Provenance

Acquired in Hong Kong, 4th February 1986.

Condition

There is an old chip to the big toe of his right foot. There are some horizontal age cracks in the wood, and occasional stains on the surface. There are two minute wormholes on his face near the mouth (showing on the illustration in the catalogue). Otherwise the pillow is in good condition. The actual colour is consistent, if not slightly less red compared to the catalogue illustration.
