Description
- Huanghuali
the well-figured top supported on a bracket-shaped apron deftly carved with archaistic dragons and centred with a mask, extending to four baluster legs ending in scrolling feet, the finely grained wood richly patinated to a warm golden-brown colour
Condition
The table is generally in good condition with some expected stains on the top surface and occasional dents along the legs, all consistent with age. There are some age cracks and some old repairs to the mortise and tenons frame around on the top. The base and the top have been associated. The carved legs can be dated of the late 19th century or possibly 20th century while the top may well be of an earlier date. The overall surface is somewhat dry and faded. There are traces of an old lacquer to the interior rail of the basement. The actual colour is more golden brown, less red when compared to the catalogue illustration.
