A RARE LARGE PINK GLASS BOTTLE VASE WHEEL-CUT MARK AND PERIOD OF QIANLONG

Description

  • glass
beautifully modelled from a solid block of pink-coloured glass, the spherical body supported on a flared foot, sweeping up to a broad tubular neck and flat rim, the glass of even rose-pink colour with paler strains encircling the neck, the recessed base inscribed with a four-character wheel-cut reign mark within double squares

Condition

There are a few very minute nicks on top of the rim. There is a small nick, some nibbling and couple of minute air bubble to the footrim. There are some surface scratches to the body, including a somewhat deeper vertical scratch (approx. 10 cm) to one side. Otherwise the vase is in good condition. The actual colour is a little brighter compared to the catalogue illustration.

Catalogue Note

Another Qianlong vase of this type, was sold twice in these rooms, 31st October 1991, lot 330, and 8th October 2008, lot 2670; a pair was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 16th September 1989, lot 428; a smaller example was sold in our New York rooms, 22nd March 1999, lot 442; and another, but with a slightly more compressed globular body, inscribed with a four-character seal mark, was sold in these rooms, 27th April 1993, lot 298.
