Description

  • bamboo
of circular form and raised on three feet, with a slightly tapering rim, deftly carved and reticulated with a scholar leaning a gnarled pine tree, dressed in a flowing robe gazing over a stream rushing from beneath steep rocks, the finely grained bamboo patinated to a rich reddish-brown colour

Condition

The brushpot is in good overall condition, consistent with age. There are a few expected age cracks extending from the rim and base, the longest 4.5 cm. extending from the side of one foot. There are a few old dents and occasional ink stains to the edge on the interior mouth rim. There are some traces of an old darker varnish on the surface on the reverse. The actual colour is deeper and warmer compared to the catalogue illustration.
