Condition
The canvas has an old lining and undulates slightly. There is some ware and minor losses along the upper edge where the canvas folds over the stretcher. There are some small areas of craquelure in two or three places along the lower edge and also near the central figures, not visually distracting. The surface is dirty and should benefit from cleaning.
Ultraviolet light reveals an opaque varnish. There appear to be some areas of retouching to the background and some retouching in places along lower edge. Further areas and infilling across the group of figures.
Held in a gilt plaster frame.
