Original canvas. The work appears in very good overall condition with strong passages of impasto throughout.
Under ultraviolet light there appear to no signs of retouching.
Held under glass in a gilt moulded frame; unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note
Middelton settled in Ardglass, County Down in 1948 and from this period became predominantly a painter of landscapes. Victor Waddington took Middleton on and represented him until 1955, raising the artist's profile through a number of exhibitions. The paintings of this period have a rhythmic energy and boldness to evoke the landscape, as seen in the present example.
