Original canvas. The paint surface is thin in some areas of the sky. There are vertical stretcher bar marks through the centre and some faint patches of craquelure through the composition. There are two small repairs with corresponding patches to the reverse, one to the upper right of the sky and one in the foreground to the left of the cattle.
Ultraviolet reveals an opaque varnish. There are retouchings corresponding to the above mentioned tears and a few further spots through the composition.
