Description
- Frida Kahlo
- Set of autograph documents, notes and drafts
- ink and paper
The set includes an unfinished letter to Dr. Baz, a note to Polito, one to Trastorno, Rivera and Kahlo's servant, whose nickname was "General Chaos," to ask his help for Kahlo's exhibition and three notes to Dr. Juan Farill, painfully written by Kahlo to her longtime medical consultant and friend. Kahlo was so ill by this time that she was unable to finish any of the notes she had started. They poignantly begin, "with all my heart," "To most marv[elous doctor]," "To Dr. Farill the one who left me alive," a note to Rivera from the artist David Siqueiros about "Los Pintores Revolucionarios".
Provenance
Gift from Ruth Rivera Marin to the family of the present owner, Consuelo Eckhardt Taracena.
Literature
Frida Kahlo, the unknown Frida, the woman behind the work: an unedited, private collection of letters from Frida Kahlo to Diego Rivera, and other documents. October 12-November 9, 1991, Louis Newman Galleries, Los Angeles.
