Catalogue Note
Upon his arrival in Mexico, Frida Kahlo's German father changed his name from Karl Wilhelm Kahlo to Guillermo Kahlo. Kahlo's German heritage presented problems when she sought to accompany Diego Rivera to the United States during World War II and to attend their exhibitions in New York.
