Catalogue Note

First appearance of Poe's best known work in the scarce original wrappers. Long accepted as the first edition, this publication, though dated February 1845, takes priority over the newspaper appearance on 29 January, 1845 as it was sheduled to actually appear in early January. Copies in wrappers appear rather infrequently at auction, with only 3 other copies sold in the last three decades.
