Publisher's pictorial boards; rebacked. Clulow, Derby (booksellers embossed stamp on front flyleaf; Joan Hadfield (pencilled signature on front flyleaf).

Condition

outer corners of upper cover and a few other tiny mends (Sambo); Quasha rebacked. Otherwise both are clean.

Catalogue Note

First editions of both, a handsomely preserved copy of Sambo. Written and illustrated by Helen Bannerman to amuse her two daughters, the tale is based on her experiences in India. The color printing was executed by Edmund Evans who pioneered work in this field as early as the 1860s.
