Catalogue Note

Unknow, unpublished diary of a 19th century French officer travelling to the French colonies in South-East Asia

The manuscript described the journey of Guillaume/William Cullard, a French Navy officer, from Aden to Saigon. He gives information about several of his trips, from the life on board the ship he travels in, to the place he visites, people and authorities in the different countries he's been to, the ways and means.

In the beginning of the first volume, he writes about facts he "already explained in the first volume" which means the relation is incomplete even the volumes are numbered 1 to 2. The manuscript is intensively illustrated with about 200 in-text and full-pages watercolours.
