Catalogue Note

Dylan Thomas was with his friend the Filipino poet, literary critic, short story writer, and painter Jose Garcia Villa in a restaurant when he drew this self-portrait. As he did not seem to like it, he crumpled it and threw it away. Villa picked it up and kept it, adding a new reference to Thomas' iconography.
