Catalogue Note
A letter from one of Schumann's most productive creative periods, the celebrated year of symphonic music 1841.
This letter to Schumann’s publisher Carl Friedrich Kistner (1797-1844) was written just days after the premiere on 31 March in the Leipzig Gewandhaus, with Mendelssohn conducting, of the composer’s First Symphony, Op. 38, an event Schumann regarded as one of the most important of his artistic life. This important concert, referred to in the letter, also featured Clara Schumann, giving her first public performance since her marriage to the composer on 12 September the previous year. Among the piano items in the concert was the Piano Duo Op. 92 by Mendelssohn, performed together by the two Schumanns.
