Puccini: 1 page (7 1/2 x 9 1/8 in.; 190 x 232 mm, sight) written on a printed telegram form, Torre di Lago, 1 July [1]910; the form somewhat browned. Matted, glazed and framed with a photographic portrait. written on a printed telegram form, to his business agent, [Antonio] Bettolacci, explaining that he intends to construct a boat-house in brick to replace the rough shacks he has there at present, with the understanding that he is ready to take it down if it offends the local council (“...Vorrei fare una darsegna in muratura in luogo delle baracche che ho per le mie barche.  La località è la medesima.  S’intende che sono pronto a demolirla quando disturbi l’amministrazione…”).

At the time of this letter Puccini was finishing the orchestration of La fanciulla del West, written for the Metropolitan Opera House in New York; it was staged there on 5 December 1910.  The improvements to the boat-house at Torre del Lago were needed to accommodate a recently-acquired speed-boat, which required something more solid than did the boats he used on his duck-shoots.

Matted, glazed and framed with a photographic portrait. He explains that he cannot receive a Signora as he has to host the lady patrons of his concert that day.
