Catalogue Note

Marilyn Monroe and Boris Aronson met in the late 1950s, when she was married to Arthur Miller.  Marilyn presented this sketch to Aronson, a woman with open legs and provocatively captioned, "waiting woman." In Elia Kazan's autobiography, the filmmaker reported that, although Aronson was impressed by Marilyn's charisma, he could not understand why Miller married her: "That's a wife? - Hell no!!"
