Catalogue Note

An unusually early Benedict Arnold signature, in very rare format. Following a buying trip to London in the spring of 1762, where he apparently bought the present book, 21-year-old Arnold established himself in New Haven as a "Druggist, Bookseller, &c." Despite his bookish vocation, no other volume from his library is found in the auction records.
