Catalogue Note

"In her installation Fire Chronicles (2012), Sibel Horada examines a moment of radical transformation and sheds light on the memory of a city in which a huge fire and migration are registered. Solid and delicate, sculptural fragments of a burned-down wooden house, forms of various stages of burning through to ashes, refer to the upheavals and new development of city neighbourhoods that destroy basic historical structures. These fragments of intrinsic beauty and power become narrative set pieces of cultural identity, whereby the artist publicly documents her impressions and experiences, continously, in photographs and in text written with an old typewriter within the framework of the exhibitions. Since July 2012, the process-based installation has been the site of interviews, interactions, and formal interventions."
