Catalogue Note

"This short film illustrates a generational/civilizational conflict based on a grandmother and granddaughter relationship. Zeitgeist Rabbit is a fantasy documentary about a girl whose life under her grandmother’s roof is distancing her from reality. In Ivanovka village, in the house full of chickens and sheep, where the water only runs from the tap outside, where the kettle is boiled on the fire cooker, we find a girl who is becoming ill from living the life that does not belong to her generation. She finds herself in melancholy wandering around the cemeteries and dancing in her bedroom wearing a disco body suit. We do not see the conflict with the grandmother herself, but we see the change of mood and behaviour in the granddaughter.

It is a well-known fact that people in Central Asia care for their traditions and respect their elders. However, the new generation is trying to rebel against that.
It all begins at an early stage. The portrait of the granddaughter tells us a pre-story of her internal fight with herself, deliberating whether to live this life or run away and try something new." Aza Shade, 2014
