In generally good condition; surface uniformly discolored (edges of sheet under mat are slightly lighter than rest--with mat burn from old matting/framing); some soiling to surface: scattered light stains and a few spots of foxing; edges are intact--upper edge is worn, as though torn from an artist's block; sheet is hinged to backing with pieces of white linen tape along the upper edge, verso

Catalogue Note

Professor Henry Adams has suggested that the present work dates from 1926 and represents a scene Benton witnessed during a visit to Santa Fe.  During that year, the artist made sketching trips through Northwest Arkansas, before going on to Santa Fe.
