Catalogue Note

Princess Anne was the second child and eldest daughter of King George II. The pair married on 25th March 1734 in the Royal Chapel of St. James Palace. William had a spinal deformity, which affected his appearance, but Princess Anne reputedly announced that said she would marry him even ‘if he were a baboon’. Upon the death of her husband at the age of 40 in 1751, Anne was appointed Regent for her three year old son William V. Another pair of these models are published by Marie-Theres Schmitz-Eichhoff, Sammlung Europäischer Fayancen des 17. bis. 19 Jahrhunderts, 1991, no. 28.
