with reeded tapering bodies and swing handles
Provenance
Samuel Henry Newsom, Tellingana, Blackrock, until sold by order of his executors in the 1960s where purchased by the current owners.
Condition
Both of these buckets are in country house condition. There has been some characteristic shrinkage and distortion . They could benefit from waxing.

Catalogue Note
Samuel Henry Newsom was an upstanding member of Victorian Irish society, a businessman, council member and board member of various trusts and charities. These peat buckets are a fine example of an affluent household of the time.
A similar example can be found in The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, London, 2007, p. 257.
