Description

  • wool pile
  • approximately 432cm by 371cm; 14ft. 2in., 12ft. 2in.

Condition

Measurements: 371 cm wide across the top, (362cm. across the middle), 354cm. across the bottom, 430cm long left side, 432cm long right side. The pile is 3-4mm with areas down to foundation in areas, especially up the central axis of the carpet. There are areas of oxidisation to the taupe colour used throughout the carpet, which affects the large palmettes in each quadrant of the design and taupe elements of the motifs around the central motifs. The pile is particularly worn in these areas, and in the lower left quadrant the large palmette is worn resulting in an area 4 by 2cm. which is almost a hole, and held by the foundation threads. Above this palmette there is a small vertical rectangular patch (7 by 3cm). Flat weave and both ends, particularly distressed condition lower left corner. The colours are generally evenly faded, except for in sections of the border where the saffron yellow is lighter, for example section across centre of top border and central sections of the side borders. There is an elongated oval shaped area (approx. 23 by 10cm) that is paler than all surrounding colours, probably from a cleaned stain.
