5-inch enamel dial signed Ravrio, Bronzier a Paris and Mesnil Hr., serpent surround, bell striking movement with outside count wheel and silk suspension, the drum mounted within a patinated rock base upon which is reclining the figure of Cleopatra, the griotte marble plinth with anthemion base and knurled feet

Enamel dial in very good condition. Movement complete but may benefit from a clean and service. Case in very good condition with fine patination and retaining the original gilding, minor edge chips to marble. With pendulum but no winder.

The figure of Cleopatra is modelled after the antique sculpture of the reclining Cleopatra or reclining Ariadne in the Vatican Museums collection. First acquired in 1512, the sculpture was seized by the French in 1797 and taken to Paris where it was exhibited in the Musèe Napolèon.  It was returned to the Vatican in 1815.
