Catalogue Note

Comparative Literature:
Saul Levy, Lacca Veneziane Settecentesche, Vol. II, Milan, 1967, Tav. 449, for two chinoiserie lacquered caskets with the `a merlotto' decoration  (Coll. conte G.F. Longoni). The `a merletto' decoration on the offered pair of caskets in imitation of Venetian lacework is extremely rare, more often found on larger pieces of furniture such as commodes and seat furniture.
