Catalogue Note

inscriptions

On reverse: 'Natural Portrait Raja Bhaskar Satupari of Ramnad State C.H 1793'

This portrait represents Bhaskara Sethupathi, who was the Raja of Ramand from 1889-1903. He was the leader of the Marawar people and died suddenly at the age of thirty-five years old. Whereas the date inscribed on the reverse of this miniature is '1793', this should probably rather be interpreted as '1893'.
