In good overall condition, some nicks to leaf edges, minor bubbling, calligraphy bold and gold bright, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

Ahmed Re’fet Efendi (b.1873) was the son of the Military Academy instructor Cemil Bey, and studied at Mensei Kuttabi Military school, after which he began a career in the military. He taught calligraphy in both state and private schools, and himself took lessons from Filibeli bakkal Haci Arif Efendi in thuluth, naskh and rayhan scripts. He also acquired skill in jail thuluth script from Sami Efendi. An illuminated muraqqa’ and an hilye approved by four calligraphers for his ijazehis now in the Topkapi Palace Museum. He died in 1949 and is buried in the Merkez Efendi cemetery next to his father.
