Arabic manuscript on paper, the Qur'an 395 leaves plus 4 flyleaves, 15 lines to the page, written in naskh script in black ink, white surah headings in gold panels, opening double page illuminated frontispiece, contemporary leather binding with gilt-stamped medallions, with flap; the Dala'il al-Khayrat 87 leaves plus 4 flyleaves, 11 lines to the page, written in black naskh script, 2 illuminated headpieces, marginal glosses, contemporary gilt-stamped binding, with flap, both manuscripts in bespoke cloth-bound box

Provenance

Formerly in the possession of Brigadier Jasper Scawen Blunt (1898-1968). Jasper Blunt served extensively in the Middle East in the Royal Artillery, and was active in the Hijaz during the First World War. In the 1920s he served in Constantinople and advised Kemal Ataturk during the formation of the Turkish Republic. It was there he became interested in Islam and acquired both the present manuscripts.

Condition

In fairly good overall condition, some wear to bindings, occasional smudges, minor paper repairs, as viewed.
