bidding is closed

Description

  • wool pile
  • approximately 204 by 133cm; 6ft. 8in., 4ft. 4in.

Condition

Pile overall good, almost 5mm deep in most areas, with some oxidisation and localised wear. The blacks (used as outlines) are oxidised throughout, and the taupe colours are partially oxidised. Wear on upper left and right outermost corners, with small repairs to top right corner. Lower right corner with some wear. Side cords rebound and outermost end guard at upper end reduced. Specialist Comment: `Mohtasham' is a term given to a group of Kashan rugs woven in kurk wool. `Kurk' is the finest lambswool, robust but very soft, giving a velvet like pile which people often mistake for silk. Much more hardwearing than silk, these rugs are lovely in bedrooms under barefeet. The muted colour combination of this piece is quite unusual. EMBARGO ON IMPORTATION OF PERSIAN/IRANIAN WORKS OF ART TO THE USA. Due to recent changes in the U.S. law, carpets and rugs of Iranian/Persian origin can no longer be imported into the U.S. Please check with the sale administrator if you are uncertain as to whether a lot is subject to these or any other restrictions or if you need assistance with such enquiries.
