the necklace comprising ten oval enamelled beads and nine hanging pendants, each featuring three hanging rosettes set with colourful gemstones with crescent-shaped terminals, the reverse enamelled and green and yellow cord for attachment, the khros with similar enamel and gem-set design

Condition

In overall good condition, some ware to hanging string as consistent with age, on the khros, the gemstones include: sapphires, emeralds, rubies, and on the necklace: green beryls and some paste replacements, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

This magnificent necklace and matching khros was opulently set with colourful gemstones into rosette and crescent-shaped beads. Playing a central role in Moroccan wedding ritual, this set presents a highly ornate example of the type of jewellery that formed an important part of the traditional dress worn by both Jewish and Muslim brides on this occasion.
